RE: Questions about quality, who makes the best frames, etc..

One of the reasons we bought our 2007 Jayco Eagle 322FKS trailer was because they had solid 10 inch I Beam frames. These frames are molded I beams not welded together like many others. You start loading down your trailer and you'll be happy if you get good solid frame construction on it. Happy trails,

New Mor/Ryde Suspension System

Last February at the Novi, Michigan RV Show the Mor/Ryde people had a booth displaying their Mor/Ryde suspension systems. While discussing their RE Equalizer Bracket system I mentioned to the Rep. that Mor/Ryde needed to come out with a drop-in bolt on replacement like Dexter has. http://www.dexteraxle.com/e_z_flex_suspension The Rep. told me that they are working on one and I should contact them later. Well I did just that and they offered to install the new "SRE" Equalizer System on our Jayco Trailer for free. Free is a magic word with me. Two weeks ago we went down to Mor/Ryde in Elkhart, Indiana and they installed the unit and asked us to evaluate it. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I didn't say a word about how I liked it to my wife. After about 50 miles on the road she mentioned how smooth the ride was. Very little bouncing or jerking on the rough Michigan roads. A little background here. We have a 2007 Jayco Eagle 322FKS Trailer (with about 15,000 miles on it)that does NOT have shocks on it. There's no shock mounts either just a set of dual springs mounted to the Equalizer Bracket. Many times we have arrived at our destination to find our clothes laying on the bottom of the wardrobe because of the rough roads. Well, not this trip. Everything was fine in the trailer. They also returned our original Equalizer Bracket to us and after two years of traveling the inside bushing had already worn through to the steel bracket itself. This unit won't be available until probably January 2009. So you folks should be able to see it at next years RV Show, in your own area. I don't have any ties with Mor/Ryde. I just thought for those with trailers that don't have shocks then this is a unit you should take a good look at. Happy trails, Bill B. (Michigan)

RE: Jayco makes a "quality trailer"?

Lets see, first trip we made with our Jayco Eagle 322FKS was to the East Coast (from Michigan) visited Gettysburg- Cape Cod area. Following summer we traveled thru Ontario- Quebec- New Brunswick- Nova Scotia- Maine- New Hampshire- Vermont- New York and home. Last February we went to the Gulf Coast Of Texas for a month then New Orleans- Mississippi and home. In June we left for a month in Boise, Idaho then- Salt Lake City- Montana- Wyoming- S. Dakota- Illinois and then home. So far we love our Jayco. Very sorry to hear about your problems...

I-90 S. Dakota to Illinois

Never have we been on such a wreck of a road as I-90. Constant road construction- miles and miles (16 to 20 mile stretches)of orange barriers with very narrow (no shoulders)lanes. Plus 30 miles stretches where you're constantly bumping along. When we finally pulled over our clothes and things were all over the place. My advise, take another route, period........

RE: RV sales might be down but camping is not down!

Left home early June and have noticed that the popular campgrounds get mostly full on the weekends. But, during the week there's plenty of campsites available. Which leaves me to believe the long distance campers are way down this year. We stayed in Yellowstone for a week and there was not much traffic on the roads. We got in and out of the sights easily. Happy trails,

RE: Where is it cool right now?

Only place I can think of right now is inside our trailer. :B We were in Boise, Idaho- then Salt Lake City- then Yellowstone- then Cody, Wyoming and now at Mt. Rushmore and I swear our air conditioner has been going constantly since we left Michigan. High 90's and 100+ since we left in June.. Phew!!!! They must be breaking records out here... Lets see, you're in Florida, hmmmm, I would head for the coast and hope for a cool breeze... Happy trails,

RE: Yellowstone

Yes, everthing is pretty in Yellowstone. Stayed there a week in July. On the North East section there's the Roosevelt Lodge. Very nice and yes Teddy Roosevelt stayed there. Don't I repeat DON'T order the "Beef Brisquet". Toughest piece of meat I ever had. Do order the "RIBS. They were delicious and tender. Now, since you're in Yellowstone don't forget to drop down to the Teton's. Stop in at the Jackson Lodge and you can have a bite to eat on the terrace and look across Jackson Lake and see the spectaculor Grand Teton Mountain. That mountain range is much different than what you'll find in Yellowstone. Prices at the Lodge were very reasonable (cheap actually).... If you're at the West entrance then do stop in at the IMAX Theater to see their movies on: Yellowstone, Lewis & Clark Expedition and Bears. All three were excellent 40 minute movies. Finally if you like pizza then do stop in at Pete's Pizza in downtown West Yellowstone. Best Pizza in town. Happy trails,

RE: Holding Tank Chemicals

run your tank sprayer with the drain open some times rather than fill and dump. let the force of the spray take the "stuff" over and out. bumpy Good idea, Bumpy. I do that all the time when I dump. Plus I have a clear fitting on the drain line so I can easily see when clear water comes out. That's why I dump multiple times when I dump the black tank.

RE: Holding Tank Chemicals

If you're having odor problem while using full hook ups Id ALMOST be willing to bet you're leaving the drain open thus never really flushing out your tank. Good luck / Skip Don't be a betting man Skip. I've never leave the black tank valve open.

Holding Tank Chemicals

Let me start out by saying we have tried different RV Chemicals to hold down the odors. Also have tried Clorox & Dawn soap mixes. Presently we are using "OdoBan" from Home Depot. They all seem to work for a couple of days and then the wife complains of the odor. Two days ago I flushed out the system ( we camp with full hook-ups). When I flush out the system I connect the hose to the black tank sprayer connection on the side of the trailer. I usually partially fill the holding tank 3 or 4 times and keep dumping until only clear water comes out. Having said that I'm now looking for help from others who are much more successful in their endeavor. What do you use??? Happy trails,

RE: opinions on Heartland TT

Last time we looked at the Heartland line was two years ago. They had many problems with their trailers. Though they did keep switching different product lines in manufacturing to bring quality up they still had serious problems with in the field warranty work.No dealers!! They changed their flooring from exterior plywood to the OSB board and had problems with that. We eventually settled on the Jayco line and have been very happy.. BTW, I just went over to the Heartland Owners forum Heartland and they still are having problems. If you have a good one then hold on to it...

RE: Other RV type web sites.

Thanks for all the other site addresses. RV.NET many times is SLOW........ non existant..... or irratic. Often very frustrating to use this site. Will try some of the others mentioned. Happy trails,

RE: particle board on as a subfloor? forest river. Flagstaff

what is Weyerhaeuser structurwood RV floor decking??? I don't think it is particleboard, nor is it OSB... is it any good??? --------------------- And that's why Weyerhaueuser a few years ago reduced their warranty from 25 years to 1 year on RV usage. I remember a discussion on the Big Horn Forum about them changing to OSB from exterior plywood and the problems they were having. Sure glad our 2007 Jayco Eagle 322FKS has exterior plywood. Happy trails,

RE: GPS ??

For $149 and the larger screen we got the Magellan Maestro 1412 from Costco. Use your free American Express Costco credit card and the warranty is extened for an extra year. Do get a GPS if you travel very much. Just last week we were in Salt Lake City and boy did that GPS save us a lot of travel time. Just punched in the address and listened to the "lady" tell me where to go. Better than listening to my wife tell me where to go... :B Actually my wife says it was the best investment -has saved our marriage. :B I do so love her.... Happy trails,

RE: Looking for Jayco deal

Bought our 2007 Eagle 322FKS from "Haus of Trailers" in White Lake, Michigan. Got over 30% off Jayco's list price. Also Gillettes RV in Lansing, Michigan is a big discounter of Jayco's. RV Direct quoted me $200 less than Haus of Trailers but I like doing business with the local boys...... Happy trails,

RE: Jayco

What mwebber78 said just about covers it. The 31 series you're considering is a very popular "family" travel trailer. Jayco's "Eagle" series is a well built trailer. Having said that I question your decision to buy from RV Direct. When we bought our Jayco Eagle 322FKS we got three quotes from local Jayco Dealers. We bought locally and very glad we did. The final price was 33% off Jayco's list price(from their website). We also got a quote from RV Direst and it was only $200 less than our local price. Had one warranty issue and the local dealer took care of it pronto. You're going to find that if you don't purchase local you may be put on the bottom of the list to have warranty work done. I've heard of some very long wait times on this forum. Finally, you're considering a large trailer. Consider the 15,000BTU Air Conditioner (not the 12,500BTU). On those real hot days you'll be happy you have it. Get the ladder option ( you'll need it to clean the roof). We've traveled from Nova Scotia to Texas to Idaho and have had a great time with our Jayco. Happy trails,

RE: Port Aransas Texas campgrounds??

Well we just love Ransom Road RV Park in Aransas Pass Texas been there three winters now. It may be filled up already though? There is also a brand new RV Park in Aransas Pass do not know the name yet but I have been told it is done now with about 300 sites. Last year our cousins stayed at Ransom Road RVPark. We visited them a number of times. They paid under $300 a month. WOW !!! Most all the sites are pull thru with full hook ups on very long cement pads. Nice grass between sites and everyone we met was very friendly. We stayed up the road in Rockport. Windy every day for over a month. Had mud rain come thru one night. Locals said it was rain mixed with sand from a storm in Mexico. Never saw such a thing- woke up to find our truck covered in mud. The gulf coast is flat as a frying pan. I think the highest point is the bridge in Corpus Christi. Every day was hot- humid & windy. Wife said she'll never go there again. We're off to the Gulf Shores area in Alabama this winter. That way we can go to New Orleans ( which we love) and over to Florida when we want. Happy trails,

Madison Arm Resort - Yellowstone

Based on only a couple of reviews we stayed here for a week in July 2008. NEVER AGAIN !!!!!!! First of all the gravel road is 6 miles of the worst road we have ever been on. Most of the way we could only travel at 5 MPH. Seemed to take for ever to go that 6 mles. It's not normal gravel it's some kind of small black stones. Everything inside the trailer was thrown around when we arrived. When we finally arrived we had to maneuver between the office building and a post (and trees) to get into the campground. We had reserved a large lot because we have a 33 foot Jayco Traler. I couldn't believe how small their lots are. Yes, there's plenty of trees. So many in fact that I defy anyone to drive thru the campground without scraping against the limbs. There's no turn around area. You just have to go back & forth until you finally can get the angle you need. Then there's the problem of finding a place to park your tow vehicle. When leaving we had to jockey around just to get out of the sight. All their roads are dirt ( as are the sites). When it rains it's a mudhole. They sell firewood. Two pieces for a dollar. Don't waste your money because the mosquitos will eat you alive there. They start before dusk and come out in swarms. There are no lights at night. There's utility poles with street lights on them but they don't turn them on. It's pitch black here at night. Leave your trailer lights on if you plan on returning at night. Rate was $38.25 a night for full hook ups. Better have a 25 foot drain hose because this campground is old and all connections are at the rear of the sites. Campers here were very friendly. There were a lot of seasonal campers, though for the life of me I don't know why anyone would want to drive the long roads to get here daily. They have free WiFi (though it's very slow) and you can get four TV stations. They should be required to remove the name "RESORT" from their ads. This is no resort just an old tired campground. Nothing much for kids to do. Laundry consists of two washers and two dryers. Better get there early!! We will stay at the KOA or at Grizzly RV Park ( in town) next time. We are retired and have camped from Nova Scotia to Texas and this has got to be the poorest experience we've had. Happy trails,
